I switched from Catholic school to Elmhurst for 4th and 5th grade. My first teacher at Elmhurst was Mr. Mallett, and his class was a total breath of fresh air compared to IHM's repressive atmosphere and psychological atmosphere. In fifth grade, I had Mrs. Hickman, though we went to Mrs. Munn's class for Math. Mrs. Hickman had a heart attack before school started that year, and she was replaced by a sub until the new year, Miss Huhn. Miss Huhn was very nice and very sweet; so it was a shock to be subjected to Mrs. Hickman's treat-everyone-like-dirt teaching style later that year. She was also a good friend of my mother's, so she made sure to make my life a particular sort of hell. that I'm complaining; she was one of the best teachers I ever had, and it was excellent preparation for Ms. Ghorai a few years later.

Of course I remember Saul, That may have been the beginning of many years of bad influence by upperclassmen.(starting with Paul Flores and the RED MAN chewing tobacco at the class picnic)HAHAHA!!! Ok your right, it probably started before Paul, (But that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

I went to Elmhurst for 5th and 6th grade. I lived by Lewton too and it sure seemed like a long walk back then. I had Mrs. Auvenshine for 5th grade but she had health problems so we had a long-term substitute Mrs. Patterson. We were horrible to her! I feel bad about it now. I had Mrs Hickman for 6th grade which was a 5th and 6th grade split class. Remember that Jim?

I went to Barns Ave for a half year while they finished Elmhurst then moved to the new school. I think that would have been early 1951. Stayed there through the 2nd grade when we moved to Windimere school.

I went to Elmhurst for Kindergarten and then for 5th grade..For Kingdergarten I was living on Rundel, the part with the Hill, then we moved 1 block over from the school on Cooper...How crazy, living 500ft away and having to bus it over to Main Street.. At least we got to chill at the "Magic Johnson" play ground and basketball courts...
Thats me down there in the blue and red stripped shirt... lol

Hey, does anyone remember electing Jimmy Carter president in the school election of 1980??? In hindsight, it's a good thing the adults in the nation voted differently .
Did anyone have Mrs. Rider ? she was one of the funnest teachers ever.
